I shall try this on my 2 year old jack russel. She has always skipped on her right leg. then walks normally... The vet said. Ignore it. Yesterday playing ball, she twisted and hurt her left leg. It responds well to a gentle massage. I shall have a feel to see if her knee is in place... She can walk ok but looks stiff, when she chases a ball its popping out and bothering her. Shame, if I have to stop playing ball, shes very ball orientated.

Sending big wags to you & your girl. Have you considered a joint supplement? I really love Cosequin. 💜 My girl is 5 years post knee surgery & still great! & thankfully she didn't need surgery on the other knee. I really think the supplements help. Thanks for the comment & best of luck to you & yours. 🥰🐕

for my labrador of 4 yo, what works the best is to grab her foot while she is standing and bend the leg upwards towards her belly in the normal direction of the joint, and it pops back in with a tinny noise, no pain, and all good to go!

How long til your dog is able to apply pressure or walk properly after you’ve slid the cap back in place? My Boston terrier had surgery on left knee when she was a puppy and now after a couple years later her right knee is giving her infrequent problems once a month or so.

Our miniature Jack Russell terrier is nearly 18 months old and I noticed him a few months ago doing a strange skip/hop on his back leg when he is “trotting” around (never does it when he is doing 100mph zoomies!). On our check up in Sept we mentioned it to the vet who didn’t seem bothered and said it’s not a problem but if it gets worse let them know. This advice was the exact opposite of what I have researched online which says it’s better to get it sorted sooner rather than later as it only needs the knee bone scraping a bit to make the groove bigger, so the kneecap doesn’t keep sliding out. I’m so confused as I don’t want Bruno to be in pain. He actually looks like your little dog but Bruno has dark chocolate patches on him as well. A very rare colour we were told for a JRT as he is classed as chocolate and tan with the blue gene! He is also a very small dog with a very BIG attitude! Any other advice regarding the knee problem would be gratefully received as I’m not convinced my vet knows what she is doing as always seems very nervous and they never seem to like being questioned or have things pointed out to them (she has changed since we joined the practice and no idea where our original vet went!)

We did do the surgery. 💜 She was around 8 months old when she had it done & today she's 5. She's had no issues with that knee since surgery. She had 2 pins put in her knee. Her other knee slips out of place now & then (very infrequently), so we did not proceed with surgery on that knee.

@@Klutzyduncan I'm thinking about having my dogs rt knee done. Although he doesn't limp like he did since he's been on pain med and joint supplements. Cost for this is anywhere from 3200 to 5000. Depending if ligament etc are needing fixed also. It's a lot since I'm on fixed income but I'm saving. He's doing good though .

@@colleenporter1119 when our girl's knee was out of place more than in, that's when we decided to do surgery. I have the same plan for her left knee - no surgery until it either bothers her &/or stays out more than in. To date she's only had her right knee done. Do you have your pup on a joint supplement? If not, I suggest Cosequin, my girl has been on it since her knee issues began. I definitely trust the supplement & brand. Best of luck to you & your pup. Sending wags your way! 💜

Thank you! I have a mini toy poodle, and it happens at times. I was told surgery is not needed when they are small, only when they are bigger and heavier. However, if it affects his lifestyle, I was told to see a surgeon. I was also told he may develop arthritis if he doesn't get surgery. I was also told by others not to do surgery. Excellent video!

Since the surgery it's been great, no issues. Now, her other knee comes out of place from time to time, but we've taught her "fix it" where she straightens the leg herself while standing to put it back in place. No problem, I know how scary it can be. Not only did we experience patella luxation with our girl in the video, our last dog had 3 ACL surgeries - for some reason knee troubles seem to follow us, lol. Do you have your pup on any joint supplements? My dogs are on Cosequin, have been for years now. It's a truly excellent product for joint health. Perhaps a joint supplement might help your dog during their senior years. Another great option (for joint health & pain) is a prescription drug called Galliprant. Our senior dog's mood & mobility have vastly changed thanks to Galliprant. Also, unsolicited tip here lol, for our senior dog (he'll be 15 in November, ~90 lbs) once he hit his senior years we started getting bloodwork done every 6 months along with a check-up. Keeping this schedule has helped him so much, our vet has found things before they became issues & we truly believe he's living his absolute best possible life. If you're not already doing more frequent check-ups & bloodwork for your senior pup, I'd suggest you consider it. 🙂 Sorry for the unsolicited advice, it's just I wish someone had told me these things when my previous dogs hit their senior years. Hope you & yours feel better soon!

      @Klutzyduncan Рік тому

Oh man, sorry to hear that. To answer your ? - no, I did not pull, I just straightened (guide to straighten). You could try it while your pup is sitting too, but I found the pillow lean worked best for my girl. My girl had surgery on the knee in the video, no issues since with that knee. Her other knee does pop out of place from time to time, but we've taught her "fix it" & she'll pop it back in on her own (from a standing position). How long has this been going on with your pup? Typically grade 4 luxations cannot be put back in place & require some sort of medical intervention. Best of luck to you & your pup. We send wags your way!

I'm not a vet, but when I had to drain my dog's it was filled with fluid & yes, I was able to get it flat. I did not use much pressure to do so either. I'd say if it's hard, check with your vet. You might be feeling the tube or perhaps it's starting to heal. Best of luck!

Is this painful for them? 😭😭🙏🏾

The luxation does not seem to be, no (at least not always). I'm sure with time it will eventually cause some pain (perhaps arthritis?). My girl went on to have repair surgery & her knee has been perfect ever since

I think my dog might have this condition he isn’t showing any signs of pain or limping but he’s knee keeps making a clicking noise was this something you noticed in your dog before he got diagnosed?

My first couple times doing it with my dog I bent his leg a little further and felt it pop but I figured that would be uncomfortable for him so I’ve started straightening his leg instead, he has stage 1 if the vet was correct, he’s still really young so the only thing I can do to prevent it from happening and getting worse is to keep him calm

I'd put him on a joint supplement like Cosequin. All of my dogs have been on it for years. It's a fantastic product. Sending wags!

My 14 month old American Staffordshire jumped from couch and then started limping, I took her to the vets today and the veterinarian said her knee cap keeps popping out of place and needs surgery which could be around $5000 she never attempted to pop it back in place nor show me how to do it, we’re booked for X-rays on Friday but just wondering if it’s at all possible to escape surgery 😬😢

My vet was telling me about this but mentioned to pull leg BACK AND STRAIGHT… Might help some people/might be easier or less painful for some

Ahem…Canada makes these ONLY for purchase in CANADA! They opened a plant in KY…US supplies come from there NOT Canada! Europe imports Canadian made Orijen and Acana…
